About the project
Understand.
Connect.
We Could Fight brings news and music into the same conversation: what happened, what a song brings to mind, and where to read and listen for yourself.
01 / The purpose
This project starts from a concern about authoritarianism and a belief that music can help us talk about resistance, solidarity and the choices people make.
The purpose is public understanding, not outrage for its own sake. A familiar song can open a conversation; it cannot stand in for evidence.
Read the reporting. Listen to the song. Follow the sources, question the connection and make up your own mind.
02 / The approach
The reporting establishes what happened. The song offers a different way into the conversation. Our job is to explain why we put them together—not to borrow an artist’s authority.
Resistance and solidarity recur in music and in public life. That resonance does not make different events equivalent, or tell us what an artist thinks about today’s news.
Each entry should give you a way back to the people who did the work: the journalists and researchers behind the reporting, and the writers and performers behind the music.
